Building 1 on Alberta street was built in 1901 and in its’ look we see the crossing between eclectics and Jugendstil. Primordial splendor was returned to the building after renovation in 2009: elements of interior created by famous company “Šels un Šefels” came back to apartments, staircases and facades. “Šels un Šefels” were the pioneers of Jugendstil in Riga.
Splendid facade, ceiling decoration and polished glass are the evidence of sophistication and wealth, as well as beauty of early 20th century. Nowadays this building is national architectural monument and it is included in UNESCO worlds’ heritage list.
During reconstruction works there were overlaps renewed, facade restored, basement fortified, staircases renewed, as well as flower fretwork restored. Also entrance doors and doors of the apartments were given back their splendor.
At the same time there appeared modern facilities: two “Otis” elevators with glass doors and walls, computer network, 24/7 live security and video-surveillance system, intercom and electronic system of water and electricity usage monitoring.
In 1920’s the building was purchased by Martinš Primanis, professor of University of Latvia, cavalier of Order of the Three Stars (II and III class). Then there lived famous Latvian novelist Zenta Mauriņa when she was studying in University of Latvia.
Apartment is partially furnished, with a fireplace.
